has its historical roots in the cultures of dark skinned people

in the warm temperatures of Africa

and from the Aboriginals of Australia.

The methods, reasons and results there can be quite a bit different

The method is to cut into the skin, but not go right through it.

We use a very sharp scalpel to create the cut.

Color pigment of your choice can be used as die in cutting.

It is common to insert ash into the cut, to help the skin to produce scar tissue.

It will be covered with a piece of special sterile "plastic" for a week or two.
